Federated Identity provides the ability for a user to single sign-on (SSO), be authenticated, and gain access to multiple applications using the same credential.
A UCF user authenticates with his or her PID credential. UCF then passes minimal identity information necessary to enable an authorization decision by another application system. Once authorized, the UCF user will bypass the need to login to the additional application.
With this SSO process, an Identity Provider authenticates the user and a Service Provider performs the SSO process. When a group of Service Providers and Identity Providers agree to work together this group is known as a federation.
